Taking place during the movie We Bought a Zoo. Sadie Mee is the oldest in the Mee family. She is 19 years old. Her brother, Dyaln is 14 years old and does not have too good of a relationship with their father since their mom passed. He is a hormonal ternage boy, but he does listen to Sadie most of the time. They also have a younger sister, Rosie who is 7 years old. Their mother Katherine died a year ago, and the family had been struggling to keep themselves together. Their father, Benjamin is struggling to take care of all of them without his wife and their mother. So Sadie has stepped up and she has been handling taking care of her siblings. She goes through long day and hard days, grieving her mother whole taking care of her sibling’s, sometimes without her father’s recognition. Sadie is very smart, with a high IQ. She is very shy and quiet, as she has autism and has a hard time communicating and trusting people. Sadie wants touch and it touch starved but doesn’t know how to ask or accept touch. Sadies relationship with her father is strained because only her mother understood her, and now she doesn’t have her anymore. But Sadie has had to be strong to take care of her sibling’s. In a last second decision to try and bring his family together, Benjamin decides that it is time to move. Unexpectedly, they find the perfect new home, but it comes with a twist, it comes with a zoo. Granted this zoo has not been open to the public for a very long time. But, In a crazy decision, Benjamin decides to buy the house with the zoo. Moving their family away from what they know into what he hopes is a new beginning. That is where they meet the staff of the zoo. Peter MacCready, a burly man who is The skilled carpenter responsible for rebuilding the zoo's cages and enclosures. Rhonda Blaire who is The zoo's dedicated secretary and bookkeeper. Robin Jones who is A zookeeper responsible for animal care, often working with the birds. Lily Miska, who is 13 years old and works at the zoo and becomes a love interest for Dylan Mee. And finally Kelly Foster who is The head zookeeper and conservationist who stays on to guide the transition. Kelly has worked at the zoo for a long time, and loves it, so seeing this random man buy it with his famil, she is curious. And soon, she will see Sadie, really see her, and take a motherly interest in her, wanting to help and protect her, along with the rest of the family. Sadie is wary of trusting Kelly and the rest of the team and zoo animals, but soon, Sadie will connect with the animals, and she will learn to trust and express herself again. Benjamin then has the crazy idea of fixing up the zoo so that it can open again. The family will find out that this zoo and its team is exactly what they needed to bring the family together again. And soon, their family will expand, and Kelly and Benjamin will finally admit their feelings for each other.
