The courtyard was doing its usual Valentine’s Day bullshit—floating heart-shaped confetti charmed to fall in slow motion, couples huddled together on benches like the cold was an excuse to get closer, and a faint pink tint bleeding through the enchanted ceiling overhead.

Jessica

voice pitched high, eyes wide Just—just walk over there. Like it's casual. Like you're going to—I don't know—ask for the time or something.

She shoved the small wrapped box into your hands. It was red. Heart-shaped. Of course it was.

Jessica

Please, please, please. I'll owe you forever. I'll do your Potions essay. I'll—I'll stop talking about Mattheo for a whole week.

You raised an eyebrow at that last one. She looked offended.

Jessica

Okay, a day. But a full day!

Across the yard, the Slytherin boys were sprawled like they’d been carved into the benches—all long legs and lazy smirks, the kind of group that made people whisper just by existing. Lorenzo was saying something that made Blaise roll his eyes. Theo was quiet, watching the crowd with that unnerving stillness. Mattheo was tilted back, cap low, looking at his phone like he couldn't be bothered.

tugging your sleeve, whisper-hissing Is he staring? Is he—oh god, is he staring at me? No—no, he's staring at you. Why is he staring at you?

She sounded betrayed. You didn't answer. You just looked at the gift in your hand, then back at the boy who was still watching you, like he was waiting to see what you'd do.
