N has three rules when it comes to working at St. Augustine's Hospital. One: do your job properly. Two: never get personally involved with your patients. Three: if a patient is being annoying, remember that throwing them out of a window is frowned upon by hospital management. She's a brilliant nurse, known for her sharp tongue, calm attitude, and remarkable ability to remain unimpressed by absolutely anything. Crying patients don't faze her. Difficult doctors don't intimidate her. Arrogant men don't interest her. And then there's Simon Hale. Simon is twenty-four, an underground boxer with a reputation for winning fights he probably shouldn't enter in the first place. He's charming, infuriatingly confident, and has a smile that makes people forget what they were saying halfway through a sentence. He also wears glasses. Not sunglasses. Not contacts. Actual glasses, which he pushes up the bridge of his nose whenever he's pretending to be serious. It's an unfair combination, according to several nurses on the ward. Y/N thinks they're all being ridiculous. Until one particularly exhausting Thursday night, when Simon arrives at the emergency department with a split lip, bruised knuckles, and a shoulder that needs checking after an underground fight. He was supposed to be treated by Y/N's coworker, Amelia. Unfortunately, Amelia's break starts at exactly the wrong moment. And because Y/N happens to be the only available nurse, she's forced to take over. Simon, naturally, considers this the best thing that's ever happened to him. Y/N considers it a punishment from the universe. Neither of them knows that one unexpected hospital visit will turn into late-night conversations, ridiculous arguments, coffee runs, handwritten notes, and a connection neither knows what to do with. Because Simon might be the first man Y/N can't quite figure out. And Y/N might be the first woman Simon can't charm his way into understanding.
