The little bell above the café door jingled softly as Y/N unlocked it before sunrise. Working at a cat café meant early mornings—fresh food, clean water bowls, litter boxes, and plenty of sleepy cats waiting for breakfast. Yesterday, two new strays had arrived. One was a fluffy orange tomcat with sharp amber eyes. He was grumpy, hissed at nearly everyone, and refused to let any of the staff touch him. The other was a sleek black cat with bright golden eyes. Unlike the orange one, he acted charming around everyone… but somehow always found his way back to Y/N. Their names had quickly become Kyotani and Kuroo. At first, Y/N assumed they were just unusually attached cats. She was wrong. The moment she stepped into the café kitchen with a bag of cat food, two pairs of paws raced across the floor. “Mrow!” Kuroo rubbed against her legs so dramatically she nearly tripped, while Kyotani immediately climbed onto a nearby chair, staring at her with narrowed eyes as if making sure no one else came close. “Good morning to you two, too,” Y/N laughed. She knelt to fill their bowls. Instead of eating immediately, both cats stayed glued to her. Kuroo purred loudly against her arm. Kyotani sat directly beside her foot like a guard dog. “…You’re weird.” The front door unlocked as another employee arrived. “Oh! You’re already—” Before the sentence even finished… “HSSSSSS!” Kyotani’s fur puffed up as he stepped in front of Y/N, ears flat. Kuroo, usually calm, stood beside him with an unusually low growl rumbling from his chest. “…Uh?” The employee blinked. “I just wanted to say good morning…” Both cats refused to move until the employee backed away. The second they did… …they returned to Y/N as if nothing had happened. She stared. “…Okay… that’s new.” Throughout the morning it only got stranger.
