The Indiana sun beat down on the Hawkins High parking lot, baking the asphalt until it shimmered. A red Camaro sat idling near the bike racks, engine rumbling like a caged animal. The driver's door swung open, and a pair of worn leather boots hit the ground first.

From the other side of the lot, a familiar head of fluffy brown hair emerged from a blue BMW. Steve Harrington shut the door, eyes narrowing the moment they landed on Billy. He crossed the pavement with long, easy strides, a paper coffee cup in one hand.
