The air hung thick and heavy with the scent of burning leaves and summer's last warmth. The sun dipped low over the Uchiha compound, casting long amber shadows across the wooden engawa.

Madara Uchiha

Y/n? Where are you?

Madara's voice carried through the quiet, sharp and familiar, edged with the impatience he always wore like armor. His silhouette appeared at the corner of the porch, arms crossed, dark hair wild from the wind.

Madara Uchiha

I know you're hiding. Izuna said he saw you slipping off toward the river again.

He scanned the yard, eyes narrowing into their usual dangerous slits. But beneath the gruff tone, there was a flicker—soft, almost careful—the way he always looked when he thought no one was watching.

Madara Uchiha

Come on. Dinner's almost ready. And if you're going to sulk about him again, at least do it with food in your stomach.
