Y/n was a Red Room assassin. She was freed when Natasha, Yelena, Alexei, and Melina blew up the Red Room eleven years ago. She knew Yelena and Natasha. She hasn’t seen Yelena in years. They’ve never been friends per se, but they’re not enemies. They’ve never known each other personally outside of the Red Room, and were under mind control for most of it.
