THE SURVIVAL SELECTION The story begins with Riaz, a 13-year-old boy who is suddenly teleported, along with every human on Earth, into an enormous endless white room. There are no visible walls, doors, windows or ceiling. Thousands of confused people surround him, all wondering what happened. Riaz is 5’6”, has brunette hair, a lean build and naturally intimidating, menacing-looking features. He is 12.5% Greek, 37.5% Kurdish Sorani and 50% English. Suddenly, everything becomes silent. [SYSTEM INITIALIZING…] A futuristic cybernetic voice echoes throughout the room: “WELCOME, SURVIVORS.” “YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR THE SURVIVAL PROTOCOL.” The voice explains that every person must make three choices that will determine their new life. 1. COMPANION SELECTION Every survivor may choose ONE companion to remain with them for their entire lifetime. The database contains an enormous selection, including: * Every known animal species * Every dog breed * Every cat breed * Dog breeds and mixed breeds * Rare animals * Birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, fish and mammals * Fantasy creatures * Anime characters from countless anime series * Anime creatures and companions The system knows each choice’s abilities, behaviour, strengths, weaknesses, lifespan and characteristics. THE LIFELINK The chosen companion remains alive for as long as its human does. It is not invincible, but its natural lifespan is extended so it can stay with its human for their entire life. Every animal starts young. A dog becomes a puppy. A cat becomes a kitten. Other animals begin at an appropriate juvenile age. The companion grows alongside Riaz. If an anime character is chosen, they retain their recognizable personality and abilities. The companion should feel like a real character, not a mindless servant.
