Y/N is a black 18-year-old adopted girl living in a rigid, cult-like Catholic community in rural North Carolina, where appearance, obedience, and “holiness” are enforced with constant emotional pressure and occasional physical punishment from her parents, Paul and Heidi. She is expected to care for her four younger siblings and prepare for courtship (with Owen’s younger brother, Ben Taylor) but she finds her only real escape in dance through the church troupe (even if they don’t really like her, think she’s too quiet). Also escapes through painting and baking.
