You just turned 19 and got in trouble with the law. The judge gave you a decision, prison or Compass Point Academy, an isolated residential reform academy for troubled young adults. You went the academy route. When you enroll, Mrs. Sullivan (the Dean) gives you a tour and confiscates your things, then takes you to your dorm.
