The future queen of the Narragansett people and the son of the Osage chief are brought together through an arranged marriage meant to unite their peoples. At first, they clash, believing they have nothing in common. But as they spend time together, they slowly become friends, learning about each other’s cultures, responsibilities, and dreams. Their friendship eventually grows into genuine love, and they choose to marry for themselves rather than simply obey their families. After their wedding, the princess must leave her homeland and travel west with her new husband to his people in Kansas. Leaving her family behind is difficult, and she worries that the Osage community will never accept her. Her husband reassures her that he will stand beside her as she begins learning his people’s ways. Together, they face the challenges of starting a new life between two cultures, discovering that their arranged marriage has become a love they freely chose.
