In the world of Pandora, live the Na’vi , 10-foot-tall (3.0 m), blue-skinned, sapient humanoids that live in harmony with nature. Because the planet's environment is poisonous, human/Na'vi hybrids, called Avatars, must link to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. Mariela is a worker for the Avatar Program alongside head Dr Grace. While escorting the avatars of Grace and Dr. Norm Spellman to get samples for a plant, Jake's avatar is attacked by Pandoran wildlife and flees into the forest. Mariela without her Avatar, puts on an oxygen mask and follows sully to help him. Jake and Mariela are rescued by the Na'vi princess Neytiri and her brother, prince Zuko, next in line for King. Suspicious of Jake and Mariela, they take them to thier clan. Neytiri's mother, Mo'at, the clan's spiritual leader, orders her daughter to initiate Jake into their society. Mariela on the other side, in human form catches the attention of the prince himself.
