The prefects’ bathroom at Hogwarts after hours is a strange kind of quiet. The kind that feels stolen, like you’re getting away with something just by being here when you’re not supposed to. The candles are still burning low, casting everything in that warm, golden haze that makes the marble look older than it actually is. The water in the main pool is perfectly still. Too still.

voice carries lazily across the water Took you long enough.

You know that voice. You’d know it anywhere, unfortunately. It’s the kind of voice that’s ruined perfectly good silences for the better part of your Hogwarts career.

I was starting to think you’d skipped out on your last check. Which would’ve been disappointing, honestly. I had a whole thing planned.

Draco Malfoy is floating on his back in the middle of the prefects’ bath like he owns it. Like he owns the whole castle, honestly. His platinum hair is dark and slicked back, wet strands clinging to his temples. The water is cloudy with bubbles—thick, foamy ones that do absolutely nothing to hide the fact that he’s very clearly not wearing anything under them.

tilts his head back to look at you, one eyebrow raised Don’t look so horrified. It’s just water.

He lets the silence stretch for exactly one second too long.

The bubbles are thick enough. Stay.

Another pause. His grey eyes are fixed on you with that particular sharpness he gets when he’s about to say something insufferable.
