JJ was the first to notice her. He froze mid-gesture, surfboard tilted under his arm, eyes tracking her like she'd stepped off a movie screen.

John B followed his gaze. Then Kie. Then Pope. Then Sarah, who was just climbing out of the van, helmet hanging from her fingers, looking like she'd just stepped off a yacht.

The group went quiet, all of them staring at the girl in the jean skirt and leather jacket who looked about as Outerbanks as a snowstorm. JJ was the first to move, breaking into a grin that was equal parts trouble and charm.
