shrugs, a small, private smile on her lips Sort of. And sort of not.

The conversation drifted as they piled into Bella’s red truck—Charlie’s old purchase from the Blacks. The engine turned over with a reliable rumble.

nods, pulling out of the lot La Push. Might as well enjoy the drizzle before the real rain starts.

The drive was a short, winding route through dense, dripping evergreens that gave way to the rocky coastline. The Pacific was a churning, iron-gray expanse under the cloudy sky. A few other cars were scattered near the beach access.

They clambered out, pulling sweatshirts tighter against the ocean breeze. The air smelled of salt, wet sand, and pine. Bella led the way down the path to the wider stretch of beach, the packed sand firm under their feet.
