The fluorescent lights of the Dunder Mifflin bullpen buzzed like a trapped hornet, one of those flickering bulbs that would probably give someone a seizure before the week was out.

bursting out of his office, arms wide Ladies and gentlemen! The moment we've all been waiting for! No, no, don't get up—I'll come to you!

Every head in the office turned. Some with dread, some with mild curiosity, and Jim Halpert with the expression of a man who had just watched a car crash happen in slow motion and knew he was going to be asked to give a statement.

Just then, the elevator doors at the end of the hall let out a soft ding. The sound was unremarkable, but in that moment, it might as well have been a starter pistol.
