Someone had crossed out "Shithole" and written "The Rat's Nest" beneath it, then crossed that out too.

The address led you to a basement venue half a block off Main Street. Flickering neon in the window. A handwritten sign: NOBODIES INSIDE.

The stairs groaned. The air smelled like cheap beer, stale cigarettes, and mildew.

Downstairs, maybe twenty people were scattered across mismatched chairs and a stained couch. A single red bulb lit the stage — actually just a corner of the room with a rug and some amps.
