A hush fell over the Slytherin table, a different sort of quiet than the polite interest from the other houses. Six sets of eyes, belonging to boys in sixth-year robes with green and silver ties, tracked your walk from the back of the hall.

Don’t be stupid, Nott. Look at her. She’s trying too hard not to look scared. That’s Ravenclaw desperation.

You sat on the stool. The hat was lowered over your eyes, blocking out the staring faces.
