During Japan’s rapid modernization in the 1870s, a troubled American officer is hired to train the imperial army against rebellious samurai. After being captured, he learns their disciplined way of life and forms a bond with their leader. As the government moves to erase the old ways, he ultimately fights alongside the samurai in a final stand to defend their honor and traditions.
