A brilliant but emotionally detached scientist, Y/N, travels back to the Middle Ages not to change history, but merely to observe it. Her mission is one of pure academic pursuit, armed with a time machine cleverly disguised as an ornate, unassuming relic. However, her plan for passive observation is shattered when she is captured by a notoriously paranoid and ruthless king. Seeing her strange attire, her incomprehensible speech, and her "magic" artifact as a dire threat to his reign, he destroys her only way home. Now, Y/N is not a ghost in the machine of history, but a permanent prisoner within it, at the mercy of the very man who trapped her there.
