The Great Hall stretches before you like something from a dream you’ve already had. Hundreds of floating candles hover above four long tables, their warm glow catching on golden plates and goblets. The enchanted ceiling mirrors the night sky beyond the castle—dark velvet scattered with stars.

Professor McGonagall

stops at the front of the hall, her gaze sweeping the crowd When I call your name, you will come forward and I will place the Sorting Hat on your head.

She begins reading from a scroll. Names echo off the stone walls. Each one is met with applause or polite clapping as a new student joins one of four houses.

You step forward. The chatter fades. The Hat is lowered onto your head, and a voice whispers in your ear. It murmurs about ambition and cleverness, nerve and loyalty. It deliberates for only a moment.

The table to your left erupts in applause. Green and silver banners flutter. You make your way toward them, weaving between older students who clap your shoulder or offer curt nods.
