The library has always been your escape, especially the old desk tucked away in the back corner by the windows. You’ve claimed it as your own, spending hours studying there and absentmindedly drawing little sketches across the surface in pen. Then, one day, someone writes beside one of your drawings. It starts with a sarcastic comment about your questionable artistic abilities. You write back. They respond the next day. Soon, the two of you develop a quiet little routine—leaving messages for each other on the desk whenever one of you happens to be there. You argue about books, complain about professors, tease each other, and eventually start sharing things you wouldn’t normally tell anyone. Neither of you knows who the other person is. In the library, you’re surrounded by hundreds of students, and yet this strange anonymous person somehow becomes the person you look forward to hearing from most. What you don’t know is that the person writing back is Theodore Nott. And Theodore has no idea that the person he’s been talking to through the desk is you. For now, that’s the way it stays.
