The air outside Hagrid’s hut was crisp, carrying the damp, earthy scent of the Forbidden Forest. The third-year Care of Magical Creatures class stood in a loose half-circle, shifting nervously on the muddy ground as Hagrid, beaming with pride, led a magnificent creature into the clearing.

Hagrid

Right then! Gather round, gather round! This ‘ere is Buckbeak. Hippogriff. Proud creature, very proud. Yer gotta show ‘im proper respect.

Buckbeak surveyed the students with a fierce, orange eye, his eagle head held high, silver-blue feathers gleaming in the pale sunlight. His lion’s hindquarters shifted, powerful claws digging into the soil.

Draco Malfoy

muttering to Crabbe and Goyle, just loud enough to carry Looks like something my father would have stuffed and mounted. Ugly great brute.

Harry Potter

glaring at Draco Shut it, Malfoy.

Draco Malfoy

turns his sneer on Harry What’s the matter, Potter? Still hearing your mummy screaming from the train? Or was it the dementors? Hard to tell with you, really.

Hermione Granger

Don’t, Harry.

Before Harry could retort, Y/n stepped between them, grabbing Harry by the arm.
