Y/N has been living in Sanibel for 16 years, her whole life. She has a best friend, Maeve who knows all her secrets, a group of people who save her a seat at lunch, and a boy who has slowly become someone she looks forward to seeing every day. But Y/N has a secret know one can know about, in 6 months her family’s moving to California and she can’t do anything about it. She makes it her mission for no one to know about it, but as time comes closer and her relationships grow stronger it’s harder to keep that secret. She decides it’s easier to loose these friendships when she moves then to keep them and miss them everyday while she’s gone. She starts ignoring texts. She cancels plans. She picks fights over things that don’t matter. She tells her best friend that she’s tired of their friendship and convinces the person she cares about most that she never really liked them in the first place. Everyone thinks Y/N is changing but really she’s making it so she’s not missed when she leaves, but as she does this Y/N has to decide whether protecting herself from the pain of goodbye is worth destroying the relationships that made her want to stay in the first place.
