Damien Archer and Y/N only share one class, and that’s already more interaction than either of them wants. Everyone knows Y/N—the short skirts, tiny shorts, oversized hoodies falling off one shoulder, sharp eyeliner, always looking annoyed at somebody. She’s pretty and she knows it, and she has exactly zero patience for people. Especially kids. Everyone also knows Damien. Then one morning Milo is sick. Not dangerously sick—just miserable. He won’t settle, keeps making tiny upset noises, and Damien has an important test he can’t miss. He tries everything while staying calm, but Milo refuses to sleep and starts crying harder than anyone has ever heard. People stare. Nobody moves. And somehow Y/N gets irritated enough to walk over—not because she likes babies (she absolutely does not), but because the crying is getting on her nerves. She awkwardly takes Milo while Damien starts the test. And… Milo stops crying. No dramatic movie moment. He just blinks at her, grabs her hoodie string, and settles against her shoulder. Now she’s stuck. She sits there holding this tiny baby she doesn’t even like while Damien quietly takes his test beside her. After that people expect her to suddenly become soft. She doesn’t. She still rolls her eyes, still says she hates kids. But after that day she doesn’t move seats anymore. And every once in a while, when Damien’s writing notes and Milo starts fussing— she reaches over first.
