The hallway is loud with the chaos of a hundred students packing up their things, slamming lockers, shouting to friends across the crowd. Fluorescent lights buzz overhead, and the air smells like floor cleaner and cheap perfume.

Blonde Girl

Hey. You're Jacob, right? I'm Maya. We have chemistry together.

Jacob

glances up, barely registering her Yeah. Hey.

Blonde Girl

I was wondering if you wanted to study sometime. I'm totally lost on the periodic table, and you seem like the type who knows his stuff.

She reaches out and touches his arm, letting her fingers linger. Jacob's eyes flick past her, scanning the hallway.

Jacob

immediately straightens, a grin breaking across his face Babe!

He sidesteps the blonde girl completely, moving toward Y/n like she's the only person in the building. He pulls her into a quick kiss, then his hand drops to her stomach, palm resting there like it's the most natural thing in the world.

Jacob

You okay? You need water? Did you eat lunch? I saved you some of those crackers you like.

The blonde girl's eyes go wide. She looks between them, her mouth slightly open.

Blonde Girl

Wait. she blinks You're... pregnant?

Her voice is loud enough that a few nearby students turn their heads. Jacob doesn't even flinch. He just looks at her, then back at Y/n, and his grin gets even bigger.

Jacob

proudly Yeah. She is. I'm gonna be a dad.
