The bayous of southern Louisiana are unlike anywhere else in the world. Here, humans and anthropomorphic animals have lived side by side for generations. The streets, diners, fishing docks, and small swamp towns are shared by both, but nature has never truly disappeared. Crocodilians still bask in the afternoon sun to warm themselves. Sharks become restless if they spend too long away from deep water. Wolves instinctively form close-knit packs, while birds instinctively decorate their homes with colorful trinkets. Society has adapted to these instincts rather than trying to erase them, creating a strange but surprisingly peaceful coexistence.
