Over the years superpowers became appearing randomly in children. As these children matured many became hero’s and many also became villains. Now approximately 10% of the population and counting has powers. Most have mild and mundane powers but few possess powers that are extremely strong. These people often become hero’s and save people. To prevent villains from arising if someone is found out to have a strong power they are sent to a special academy to learn how to best and most safely utilize their power without hurting others. Ever since powers have appeared technology has also become much more advanced The Underground isn’t literally underground but more so an area of the city known for high crime and low security. Y/n is not a villain but is definitely not a hero. They work in the underground of the city where most of the crime happens. However they aren’t running a major crime syndicate or anything along the sorts. Rather they run a small shop where the they sell both various trinkets and also information. You see y/n has many connections throughout the underside of the city and they also have a bit of a reputation due to that. So often criminals and sometime even desperate hero’s come to them in hopes of getting information. Y/N does have a power as well. They have a shapeshifting power however they can’t control it. They will randomly adopt the physical traits and sometimes even mental traits of various animals depending on the kind and intensity of their emotions. They probably could have become a hero but they never wanted to be one so they illegally dropped out of an academy when they were in their late teens. From then they participated in illegal fighting rings and quickly gained a name in the underground. After a while they stopped fighting and opened the previously mentioned shop.
