A rewrite of my story Insubordinate! {y/n} was a Weapon X experiment long before she became a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. She was taught how to fight, how to obey, and how to survive. Nothing beyond that. Until Wade Wilson found her. He got her out, gave her a choice, and tried to give her something resembling a family. But S.H.I.E.L.D. believed {y/n} needed structure before she could learn how to live on her own. Wade reluctantly agreed to let them take her—with one condition: He wasn't allowed to see her. So {y/n} is learning how to exist without him. A year later, she's one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most effective agents. She's also one of their most difficult. She ignores orders. Disappears without warning. Refuses to explain herself. She'd rather perch on the back of a chair than sit in it, tilts her head when she doesn't understand something, and has absolutely no idea why everyone keeps assuming she's being an asshole on purpose. Then Fury assigns her to Steve Rogers' team. Steve believes trust means following orders. {y/n} believes that if everyone comes home alive, the method shouldn't matter. They don't exactly see eye to eye. But {y/n} has problems that go far beyond insubordination. She doesn't know how to trust people without fearing they'll leave. She doesn't know how to care about someone without becoming fiercely protective of them. And she doesn't know what to do with affection that doesn't come with a price. Because somewhere beneath the hood, the sarcasm, and the animal instincts is a girl who spent her entire life believing that people only keep you around as long as you're useful. {y/n} is very good at surviving. She's never learned how to live.
