The building swallowed the sound of his footsteps whole.
Concrete floors, rusted pipes overhead, the faint drip of water somewhere Katsuki couldn't see. The kind of place where bodies disappeared and nobody asked questions afterward.
His phone buzzed against his chest again.
Kirishima Eijiro
We're in position. Don't be a hero.
Another buzz.
Sero Hanta
Tracking movement. Three heat signatures, second floor. One stationary, first floor. That might be her.
Katsuki pocketed the phone. His jaw tightened as he moved past a doorway into a vast, darkened space.
The warehouse opened up around him. Crates stacked in uneven rows. A single bulb hanging from a wire, swaying slightly, casting a weak pool of light in the center of the room.
Then a sound.
Katsuki stopped dead. His entire body went rigid, hand hovering near the holster beneath his jacket.
Katsuki Bakugo
voice low, rough ...Y/n?
Silence. He moved forward again, boots barely audible against the concrete.
Then—metal scraped overhead. A speaker crackled to life.
???
Bakugo. a man's voice, distorted, cold. You were told to come alone.
Katsuki Bakugo
eyes lifting toward the speaker I did.
???
You've got men outside.
A humorless smile flickered across Katsuki's face.
Katsuki Bakugo
You said I had to come alone. he paused You didn't say shit about where everybody else had to be.
???
silence, then a low, dry chuckle Still an arrogant bastard. I'd almost forgotten how much I hated that about you.
Katsuki Bakugo
his expression hardening I followed your instructions. Now I'm here. his voice drops, low and dangerous Where's my wife?
The bulb above swayed. Shadows stretched across the concrete like reaching fingers.
???
Close your eyes, Bakugo. Count to three.
A door creaked open somewhere in the darkness ahead.
