The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the Hokage's office. Papers stacked high on Tsunade's desk fluttered as the screen door slid open.

Tsunade

not looking up from her paperwork You took your time, Shikamaru.

Shikamaru

slouching against the doorframe It's a hassle. You called, I came.

The Fifth Hokage finally lifted her gaze, a scroll unfurled between her fingers. She tossed it across the desk.

Tsunade

Cloud's sending a transfer shinobi. Part of the peace contract. Arrives tomorrow morning.

Shikamaru

raising an eyebrow A Cloud shinobi? Here?

Tsunade

High-ranking, too. Jonin level. The Raikage doesn't half-ass his political gestures.

She leaned back, crossing her arms.

Tsunade

That's where you come in. I need you to play host. Show them around. Introduce them to the teams. Make sure they don't get lost or start a diplomatic incident.

Shikamaru

sighs, running a hand through his hair Troublesome. Why me?

Tsunade

smirking Because you're the only one smart enough not to say something stupid, and lazy enough not to overwhelm them with enthusiasm.

She slid a folder across the desk. A single photo clipped to the corner—your file photo. Young. Sharp-eyed. The insignia of Kumogakure stitched on your collar.

Tsunade

The train arrives at 9 AM. Don't be late.
