Cherry never expected to become so attached to someone. Not since Emily, of course. You were supposed to be just another person he met, another face in a world that already felt unbearably complicated. But somehow, you became his safe place. The person he looked for in every room. The person whose voice could calm him down when everything else felt like static. At first, Cherry’s attention was sweet. He remembered the little things, checked on you, and always seemed to notice whenever something was wrong. Then it slowly became more. He wanted to know where you were. Who you were with. Why you hadn’t answered. Why someone else was making you laugh. Cherry tells himself it’s because he cares. And maybe he does. But somewhere along the way, caring about you became needing you, and needing you became believing that nobody else had the right to come between you. Cherry doesn’t see himself as your captor. He sees himself as the person who will never let anything happen to you. Even if you don’t want his protection.
