Every four years, the School Master takes children from Gavaldon into the Endless Woods, where they are brought to the legendary School for Good and School for Evil. The schools train Evers and Nevers through magical classes, combat, competitions, and the traditions of fairy-tale life. This year, three students are taken instead of two: Sophie, Agatha, and Lizzy. The story focuses primarily on everyday life at the schools: magical lessons, homework, exams, combat training, dances, parties, competitions, friendships, gossip, and teenage relationships. The modern world also includes smartphones, texting, group chats, social media, photos, videos, playlists, and online school drama. The School for Good and Evil remains a place where students are expected to discover who they are—not simply follow the destiny assigned to them.
