A bruised purple, streaked with veins of sickly yellow. No moon. No stars. Just an endless, pressing dark that seemed to breathe.

The horde was a wall of shrieking, clawing shadows. Their forms flickered, humanoid one moment, stretched and wrong the next. They flowed over the dead grass like a tide of ink.
Up ahead, the bus graveyard. A rusted chain-link fence, gaping open. Beyond it, the hulking silhouettes of abandoned school buses, their windows dark and empty.
