@ins0mniaccThe cathedral doors groaned open, and candlelight spilled across the stone floor like molten gold. Every noble head in the kingdom turned.
The pews were packed—dukes in velvet, ladies in silk, knights in polished steel. The air smelled of incense and expensive perfume. And at the altar, waiting beneath a canopy of white roses, stood Sasuke Uchiha.
He was exactly as the rumors described him. Tall. Severe. Beautiful in a way that made people lower their voices. His black hair fell sharp against his jaw, and his dark eyes were fixed somewhere above the congregation—anywhere but at the aisle.
Itachi Uchiha
leaning slightly toward his brother, voice barely a murmur You could at least look at him once.
Sasuke Uchiha
jaw tight I'm looking at the altar.
Itachi Uchiha
The altar is behind me.
Sasuke said nothing. His gloved hand tightened around the hilt of his ceremonial sword.
At the front of the cathedral, the King himself sat upon a raised dais, watching the proceedings with the satisfaction of a man who had just prevented a civil war with a single piece of parchment.
The music swelled. The congregation rose.
And then—Y/N stepped into the light.
The wedding robes were silver and deep crimson, the colors of House Aster. They caught the candlelight like water. A thin circlet of moonstone rested on their brow, and their hands were steady as they carried a bouquet of winter roses.
They walked alone. No father. No mother. Just a retinue of silent attendants and the weight of a political bargain on their shoulders.
Sasuke finally looked.
For exactly one second. Then his gaze snapped away, as if the sight had burned him.
Fugaku Uchiha
from the front pew, low and commanding Stand straight. Smile if you can manage it.
Sasuke Uchiha
barely audible I'm not a performing dog.
Fugaku Uchiha
Today, you are.
The officiant raised his hands. The cathedral fell silent.
Officiant
We are gathered here today to bind two houses—House Uchiha and House Aster—in sacred union, before the eyes of the gods and the crown.
Y/N stopped beside Sasuke. Close enough to feel the cold radiating off him. Close enough to see the way his throat moved when he swallowed.
Officiant
Lord Sasuke Uchiha, do you take Lord Y/N of House Aster to be your lawful spouse, to honor and protect, in peace and in war, for as long as you both shall live?
The pause stretched. A beat too long. Somewhere in the pews, a lady whispered behind her fan.
Sasuke Uchiha
voice flat I do.
Officiant
And do you, Lord Y/N of House Aster, take Lord Sasuke Uchiha to be your lawful spouse, to honor and cherish, in peace and in war, for as long as you both shall live?
Sasuke didn't watch Y/N say the words. He stared at the stained glass window above the altar—a warrior saint slaying a dragon. He wished he were anywhere else.
Officiant
By the authority vested in me by His Majesty the King, I now pronounce you wed. You may seal the union with a kiss.
Sasuke turned. Y/N was right there, close enough to touch. Their eyes met—just for a moment—before Sasuke leaned in.
The kiss was brief. Chaste. Cold.
A formality.
The congregation erupted in applause. The organ thundered. Rose petals showered down from the rafters like blood-red snow.
And Sasuke stepped back immediately, as if the contact had stung him.
Itachi Uchiha
quietly, to Mikoto That went better than expected.
Mikoto Uchiha
soft sigh Did it?
Outside the cathedral, the winter sun hung low over the capital. Carriages waited in a long line. Bells rang across the city. The people cheered for a marriage they would never understand.
Sasuke offered his arm to Y/N—stiff, formal, proper.
The first of a thousand gestures he would perform without meaning a single one of them.
