The evening was quiet in the Uchiha district, the last of the sunset bleeding orange through the paper screens of Sasuke’s modest home. The only sounds were the soft clink of chopsticks against bowls and the low murmur of conversation between him and Sakura, who was visiting for dinner.

A firm, rhythmic knocking echoed from the front door, cutting through the calm. Sakura’s brows lifted in surprise, and she pushed herself up from the floor cushion.

She padded to the entryway and slid the door open. For a moment, there was only stunned silence from the threshold. Then—

Helloooo— Oh my god, oh my goodness—! She froze, one hand flying to her mouth. Is that— Is that a kid—! I guess you were gone for thirteen months— oh my god, that’s a kid!

Inside, Sasuke’s hand stilled, his chopsticks hovering halfway to his mouth. His dark eyes flicked from his bowl to the silhouetted figures backlit in the doorway.
