Title: My girlfriend says she’s being realistic, but I feel like she doesn’t believe in me. ⸻ My girlfriend (27F) and I (28M) have been together for six years. She’s amazing in a lot of ways, but lately I feel like she’s stopped supporting me. I work a stable 9-5 job, but for the last four years I’ve been building custom furniture in my garage. It started as a hobby, but I’ve gotten enough commissions that I’m seriously considering trying to turn it into a business. I’m not talking about quitting tomorrow. I’ve made a plan to grow slowly, save money, and eventually transition if it becomes realistic. The problem is every time I bring it up, she shuts it down. She says things like: * “Most businesses fail.” * “You’re romanticizing this.” * “Why can’t you just be happy with what you have?” I understand wanting stability, and I don’t expect her to blindly support every idea I have. But it feels like she sees my dream as a childish fantasy instead of something worth trying. When I told her I needed her support, she said, “Supporting you doesn’t mean encouraging bad decisions.” Maybe she’s right. Maybe she’s just trying to protect our future. But I can’t shake the feeling that the person who’s supposed to believe in me the most is the person who doubts me the most. Am I being unreasonable, or is there a difference between being realistic and not believing in your partner?
