The roof of the Hokage Tower is the highest point in the village that isn’t a monument. Dusk settles over Konoha like ash cooling after a long fire. Below, the streets are lit with lanterns—soft, amber, ordinary. The scent of food from the evening stalls drifts up, faint and warm.

Kakashi

You’re not scheduled tonight.

Rin doesn’t turn. She knows the weight of that presence. Knows the silence he carries even when he speaks.

Rin

I know.

The steps stop a few paces behind her. Close enough for conversation. Far enough for respect. Kakashi Hatake stands with his hands in his pockets, one eye fixed on her silhouette against the darkening sky. He’s not wearing the Hokage robes tonight. No hat. No guards. Just standard jōnin blacks and a mask.

Kakashi

I didn’t call you in.

Rin

I wasn’t waiting.

She hears the silence that follows. Waiting for him to decide whether to point out the lie.

Kakashi

quietly There’s nothing else to do.

It’s not a question. It’s an observation. He knows. Of course he knows.
