After the island split into tribes, the rivalry between Ralph and Jack Merridew only grew worse. Fires burned through the night, hunters painted their faces for raids, and fear of the beast spread among the boys like a sickness.Deep within the jungle, Raina survived alone beside a crystal-clear pond hidden by vines and flowers. Away from the chaos of the tribes, she spent her days swimming, collecting fruit, and talking to herself just to stay hopeful. One afternoon, while hunting near the pond, Jack spotted movement in the water and froze in disbelief when he realized it was a girl. The sight shocked him so badly that he panicked and knocked out Raina. The hunters stared as Jack emerged from the jungle with an unconscious girl in his arms. while Jack — unusually speechless — couldn’t stop staring at the girl he had found hidden in the jungle.Once Raina woke up, the entire island changed. The younger boys quickly became attached to her gentle nature. She cleaned wounds, comforted nightmares about the beast, and told stories to calm them during storms. For the first time in months, the camp felt softer, warmer — almost normal. Even the hunters treated her differently, becoming quieter and less aggressive around her.But the biggest change came from Jack himself.Around everyone else, Jack remained fierce and commanding, but around Raina he became teasing, protective, and surprisingly charming. He constantly tried to impress her during hunts, flirted shamelessly whenever she patched up his injuries, and always found excuses to stay near her. Raina, despite knowing how dangerous and wild he could be, slowly began seeing the lonely boy beneath the paint and anger. As feelings grew between them. Meanwhile, the fragile peace Raina brought to the camp threatened the balance between the tribes, because if Jack cared more about protecting Raina than ruling through fear, everything on the island could change.
