In the rearview mirror, you catch your own reflection. You look different than you did the last time you stood on this campus. Older. More sure of yourself. The person you became in the years since you stopped being just someone's little sister.

You kill the engine. The silence that follows is heavy, expectant.

Through the windshield, you see them. All four of them. Oliver stands at the front with his arms crossed, the same look he's worn since you were six. Jace is grinning like he's about to make a joke. Rylan's scanning the parking lot like he's expecting trouble. And Noah is practically bouncing on his heels, already waving.

Your stomach flips.

You open the door. Your sneakers hit the pavement. The second you're fully out of the car, they swarm you.

Then you glance up.

Past Oliver's shoulder. Past Rylan's suspicious glare. Past the mess of their reunion.

And you see him.

He's leaning against the brick wall of the dormitory, arms crossed. A black hoodie hangs loose on his frame, the sleeves pushed up to reveal forearms you don't remember ever noticing before. His jaw is sharper now. His shoulders broader. His hair is that same messy dark brown, falling across his forehead like he just ran his hands through it.

He's watching you.

And when your eyes meet his, that infuriating smirk curls across his lips.
