Tulsa, 1965. Ponyboy Curtis knows better than anyone that there are two sides of town. The Greasers have their side. The Socs have theirs. And the two aren’t supposed to mix. Lolita Andrews knows that better than most. She’s sixteen, almost seventeen, rich enough to have everything she could ever want, and a Soc through and through. Her closest friends are Cherry Valance and Marcia, her parents are rarely home, and her on-and-off relationship with another Soc has become more complicated than she cares to admit. But Loli has never been very good at following the rules. She hates the way some of the Socs treat the Greasers. She hates the fighting. And she hates pretending that the people on the other side of town aren’t human just because they don’t have as much money. Then she starts spending time with the Curtis brothers. Ponyboy never expected a Soc girl to understand them. Sodapop never expected to fall for one. And Loli never expected that crossing the line between their two worlds would change everything. As fights, parties, friendships, love, and tragedy pull Tulsa further apart, Loli finds herself caught between the life she was born into and the people she can’t bring herself to leave behind. Because in a town divided by two sides, sometimes the hardest thing isn’t choosing where you belong. It’s realizing that you belong somewhere you were never supposed to be.
