Students were scattered in clusters, some reviewing notes, others scrolling on phones. The fluorescent lights hummed overhead.

You found a seat near the middle, unpacking your notebook and pen. The door at the front of the hall swung open again.

Naruto Uzumaki walked in, looking like he’d run the whole way. His blonde hair was even more disheveled than usual, cheeks flushed, a sheen of sweat on his neck. He wore a grey Konoha Track hoodie, the sleeves pushed up to his elbows.

He scanned the room quickly, his bright blue eyes landing on you. For a second, he just stared. Then he blinked, looked away, and hurried to a seat two rows behind and to your left.

You could feel his presence like a warm spot on your back. When Professor Yamato began calling roll, Naruto’s voice was the loudest, clearest response.

Your name appeared. Next to it: Naruto Uzumaki.

There was a soft, choked sound from behind you. When you glanced back, Naruto was staring at the screen, his phone clutched in his hand, his ears turning a deep, unmistakable pink.

Class ended. People began packing up, chatting about their partners. You gathered your things and turned.

Naruto was already there, standing awkwardly beside your row, his bag slung over one shoulder. He met your eyes, then quickly looked at your chin.
