The morning sun slanted through the high windows of the Academy classroom, warming the wooden floorboards. Scrolls of basic jutsu theory hung on the walls, and the air smelled of old paper and chalk dust. A low, excited buzz hummed under Iruka-sensei’s voice.

whispering, eyes fixed on the doorway Do you think they’re from a famous clan?

They’d have to be, to transfer in now. Maybe they’re from the Sand Village?

At the back of the room, Naruto Uzumaki slumped in his chair, arms crossed behind his head. He let out an exaggerated yawn.

muttering Big deal. Another stuck-up know-it-all, probably.

Sasuke Uchiha didn’t turn. He kept his gaze forward, a faint, bored scowl on his face. Iruka-sensei cleared his throat, his smile patient but firm.

Iruka Umino

Class. A little quiet, please. We have a guest.

He nodded toward the open door, his gesture welcoming.
