The living room was sparse, almost clinical. A low black sofa, a single floor lamp casting a warm pool of light, and a wide archway leading into a small, brighter kitchen.

Kai Chisaki

As they padded into the living room, a figure moved in the kitchen beyond the archway. You were leaning against the counter, one shoulder propped against the frame, looking down at something in your hands. The light from the window caught the side of your face, the faint line of a scar tracing from your temple toward your cheekbone.

his eyes snap to you, then narrow slightly. He goes very still.
