The Hogwarts Express had barely pulled out of King's Cross when the door to the compartment slid open with a soft hiss.

There you are. He stepped inside, shaking rain from his robes, and dropped onto the seat across from you. I've been looking everywhere. Father's owl got lost again, and Pansy wouldn't shut up about her new robes.

He grinned—that familiar, crooked grin you'd known since you were six years old—and reached into his pocket, pulling out a crumpled bag of Sugar Quills.

Outside, the English countryside blurred past in streaks of grey and green. Rain dotted the window. The compartment smelled like wet wool and cinnamon—his cologne, the one he always wore.
