You’d only been at Nekoma a few weeks, a transfer who could be loud and talkative, yet quiet and calm at times. People noticed you were smart. Pretty. Composed. But you kept to yourself most of the time, unless you were with your friends. Your friend Piper, however, was the opposite loud, bubbly, and completely obsessed with Kenma Kozume, Nekoma’s sleepy-eyed setter. She honestly made you a bit loud and bubbly when you were with her. You didn’t see the appeal of Kenma, but when she begged you to watch cheer practice conveniently scheduled during the boys’ volleyball training you agreed. The gym buzzed with squeaking shoes and sharp whistles. As you walked in Kuroo, distracted, bumped straight into you while chasing a stray ball. You stumbled, nearly falling, but he caught your wrist and steadied you instead. “Ah I’m sorry!” he said quickly, helping you up. Up close, his usual teasing grin was gone. His ears were red. His hand lingered a second too long before pulling back. For once, Nekoma’s captain looked completely flustered.
