The house was too big for five people, but somehow it still felt too small when Jungkook was around.
Saturday evening. The living room smelled like takeout and cheap candles. Fairy lights were strung messily across the ceiling, and leftover pizza boxes sat stacked on the coffee table like a tower of bad decisions.
Jimin
sprawled across the couch, scrolling through his phone You know, for people who can't stand each other, you two sure do spend a lot of time in the same room.
Jennie
curled up on the armchair, a textbook half-open on her lap Jimin, don't start.
Jimin
What? I'm just saying. It's almost eight, and neither of them has left the house. It's a Saturday. It's like they're waiting for something.
Jennie
glances toward the door, her voice quiet Maybe they are.
The floorboards creaked overhead. Someone was coming down the stairs. The steps were unhurried, heavy in a way that was annoyingly familiar. Thud. Thud. Thud.
Then he leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, one corner of his mouth pulled up just slightly. The lip ring caught the fairy light.
Jungkook
tilting his head Don't stop on my account. I was just coming down to see what all the noise was about.
Jimin
We're literally whispering.
Jungkook
shrugs You're loud.
His gaze slid past Jimin and Jennie, landing somewhere else. The kitchen doorway. The couch. Not quite on you.
He walked over, grabbed the last slice of pizza from the box without asking, and took a bite standing up. Chewing slowly. Watching.
Jungkook
mumbling through the bite So. Anyone actually doing something tonight, or are we just sitting around staring at each other like a bad drama?
