The setting sun casts long, amber shadows through the wide windows of your apartment. The city hums below, a distant lullaby of car horns and train whistles.

Rin Bakugou

mumbling, half-asleep Mommy... is Daddy gonna be on the news again tonight?

The question lands like a stone in your gut. You stroke her hair, your thumb brushing over her temple.

Narator

On the muted TV, the evening news flickers. A familiar shock of ash-blonde hair, a flash of a cocky grin as he waves to a crowd after a villain takedown. Katsuki Bakugou. The Number One Hero. A stranger in your living room.

The apartment is too quiet. Too clean. His side of the closet is still half-full, because you haven't had the strength to pack it up yet. His favorite mug — a chipped thing with "World's Okayest Hero" printed on it — is still in the sink.
