Pansy had shoved her phone into his hand before disappearing upstairs, telling him to hold it for five minutes.

Five became twenty.

Then the phone vibrated. Again. And again.

Theodore ignored it until a notification illuminated the screen.

Y/N: I can’t keep doing this.

Another appeared.

Y/N: every time I think I’m over him he does something and I’m right back where I started.

Theodore knew exactly who him was. Everyone probably did except Mattheo.

Theodore shouldn’t have opened the conversation. He did anyway.

Months of messages. Y/N trying to get over Mattheo. Wondering if telling him would ruin everything. Hating how one stupid Bug could undo weeks of progress. Listening to Mattheo talk about Daphne and pretending it didn’t hurt. Wondering if the way he sometimes looked at them meant something. Knowing it probably didn’t.

Mattheo remained there, suddenly remembering things he’d never questioned. Y/N going quiet around Daphne. Leaving after he kissed Daphne at a party. The excuses. The growing distance. The looks that disappeared whenever he noticed them.

Mattheo pulled out his phone.

Mattheo stared at the screen. For the first time, the nickname that had always gotten Y/N’s attention did nothing.

And suddenly, Mattheo had the uncomfortable feeling that whatever Theodore had discovered—he was the reason for it.
