I’m backkkkk · Y/n story by @udontknowme68

Late August in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The kind of heat that sticks to your skin like honey, that makes the asphalt shimmer and the air smell like gasoline and cut grass.

Two-Bit Mathews

grinning, elbowing Steve You see that? That's the third car that's slowed down to check out the view, and she ain't even here yet.

Steve Randle

She ain't gonna show. You've been talking about this all week like it's the second coming.

Sodapop Curtis

She's coming. running a hand through his hair I saw her at the grocery store yesterday. You wouldn't believe it, man.

Steve Randle

I'll believe it when I see it.

The bell above the station door jingled. Darry stepped out, wiping his hands on a rag, squinting against the sun.

Darry Curtis

Y'all got nothing better to do than stand around gossipin' like old women?

Two-Bit Mathews

It's called anticipation, Darry. You wouldn't know nothing about it.

Darry Curtis

snorts I know you're supposed to be helping me inventory the oil. Get in here.

Two-Bit Mathews

In a minute, in a minute.

A low rumble sounded down the street. All heads turned. A black car was approaching, engine growling, dust kicking up behind it. It pulled into the lot, brakes squealing, and rolled to a stop in front of the pumps.

Dallas Winston

stepping out, cigarette dangling from his lips What're you all starin' at?

Two-Bit Mathews

Not you, that's for sure.

Dallas smirked, shoving his hands in his pockets. He looked past them, down the road, like he was waiting for something. Or someone.
